WWE SmackDown preview (Dec. 8, 2023): CM Punk dominates Roman Reigns’ show

[ad_1]

Smack down airs tonight (Dec. 8) with a live show coming from the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island. This is the second part of Smack down in the nine week build up to Royal Rumble 2024which will be held on January 27.

CM Punk is hosting Roman Reigns’ show

After more than a decade away from the blue, CM Punk returns to SmackDown tonight. The Best in the World will have the mic in hand to follow up his “I’m home” announcement on Raw.

CM is taking things easy now that he’s back in WWE, so this could be a low-key segment where he’s distracted by a mid-card heel that follows eat a GTS.

But considering Punk is taking over the Tribal Chief show for one night, it will be even more interesting if WWE plants a seed for a final feud between Punk and WWE Universal Championship Roman Empire.

Reigns has been a part-time employee for less than a month, and is not expected to be around tonight for an interaction with Punk. But Roman’s expert Paul Heyman should be in the house, and he is the key to this whole thing because of his close relationship with Punk.

What will happen when Punk and Heyman cross paths tonight? That’s the main question on my mind when it comes to Punk’s return to SmackDown, so I hope we’ll see.

The rest is the title scene

United States Championship Logan Paul is a part-timer, who will probably be out for a while as WWE conducts an 8-man tournament to determine his next challenger. Tonight’s card includes two first round matches: Karrion Kross returns to TV to fight Bobby Lashley, and Dragon Lee gets a Survivor Series Rematch with Santos Escobar.

Bianca Belair defeated Kairi Sane last week to confirm that Damage CTRL will not be over until she loses. WWE Women’s Championship IYO SKY for gold. Kairi lost when Bayley went back on her word and came to the ring. Will the rest of the Damage CTRL group point the finger at Bayley for the group’s recent failings?

WWE Tag Team Championship Damian Priest and Finn Balor are focused on Raw and The Creeds right now, although they may owe Randy Orton a receipt at some point down the line.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Chelsea Green and Piper Niven also have their hands full on Raw and have no apparent reason to be on SmackDown tonight.

Other things to watch out for

– LA Knight appeared in last week’s main event to save Randy Orton from a fall at the hands of The Bloodline. Naturally, Knight and Orton will team up tonight to face the team of Jimmy Uso and Solo Score in a tag match. Roman Reigns isn’t here, so I don’t like Bloodline’s chances here.

– Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka has booked for tonight. If the Queen wins the Empress, she will likely argue that she deserves a name that matches IYO SKY. Will Bayley find a way to accidentally screw this match up for CTRL Damage too?

– AJ Styles is expected to return to WWE tonight, after rumors of his return were false a few weeks ago. It’s been 2.5 months since we last saw AJ when he was taken behind the scenes by Bloodline.

– The Brawling Brutes break up without Sheamus to lead them. Ridge Holland walked away from BUTCH recently, so BUTCH is pursuing singles matches. Who will do the job tonight?

– Kevin Owens is very good at punching the faces of Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, but he injured his kayfabe arm last week. Will KO’s position for the US number one champion be affected by this unfortunate situation?

– Nick Aldis took his first attack in WWE last week when he was RKO’d out of nowhere by Randy Orton after signing him to an exclusive deal with SmackDown. Will the SmackDown GM punish Randy for being a jerk and attacking him for no good reason?

– Tonight is WWE’s Tribute to the Troops broadcast, which comes with a live musical version of War and Covenant.

– Where the f*** is Omos?
