When Apple releases new software, iOS updates often get a lot of attention, and sometimes there are useful new features in Mac updates that go under the radar. That’s the case with macOS Sonoma 14.2. It doesn’t have the improved features like the Journal app that came with iOS 17.2, but there are a number of useful improvements that make it worth installing.

We’ve rounded up five of the best features included in macOS Sonoma 14.2.

  • Message – The Messages app includes a capture arrow that lets you jump to the first unread message in a conversation, plus the option to add an item attached to a message from the tapback interface. That makes it quick to add non-emoji responses during chats on the Mac.
  • PDF Autocomplete – AutoFill detects key areas in PDFs and other documents so you can fill them in quickly. It will recognize addresses, phone numbers, and similar information that can be entered from the Contacts app.
  • Price Widgets – Many new Weather widgets can be added to the Mac computer. Options include next hour’s rainfall, daily forecast, sunrise and sunset, Air Quality, Weather, and wind speed.
  • Full Time Support – The Clock app on Mac supports multiple timers that can run at the same time. There are also timer settings for quick scheduling.
  • Shazam Upgrade – With an update to Shazam Music Recognition, you can Shazam songs on Mac even when you’re wearing your AirPods.
