The governor of Arizona has demanded $512 million in restitution from Biden for failing to protect the southern border.

In a letter to President Biden on Friday, Democratic Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs is frustrated and concerned about the response of the authorities south of the border and, in the process, demanded a large refund.

“Today, I sent a letter to President Biden calling on him to reassign members of the National Guard to assist in his reopening, as well as to repay the $512,529,333 federal the border that made us fight,” Hobbs said on X.

In the letter, Hobbs told Biden that the refunds were for the federal government’s “failure to protect Arizona’s border,” and emphasized that going forward, the state of Arizona would constantly seeking reimbursement from the federal government.

On Monday, the town of Lukeville was closed by federal order, forcing both Americans and Mexicans to drive several hours to another town near Nogales, Arizona.

“For too long, Arizona has continued to shoulder the federal burden of managing our southern border,” Hobbs wrote in the letter. “The recent decision to close the Lukeville Port of Entry has caused an immediate humanitarian crisis in the area and is threatening Arizona’s security and business.”

In his letter, Hobbs urged Biden to “immediately” move the 243 National Guard soldiers already assigned to the Tucson region to the town of Lukeville.

“Furthermore, if necessary, I am asking other members of the National Guard who are currently in the federal reserve duty to be reassigned to Arizona to assist. to US Customs and Border Protection to reopen the Lukeville Port of Entry,” Hobbs said.

Hobbs was set to travel to the state’s southern border with Mexico this weekend to visit the border incident in Lukeville.

Hobbs added that protecting neighbors and keeping their communities safe is his top priority.

“As long as I’m Governor, I will do everything I can to keep Arizonans safe – even if the federal government can’t act,” Hobbs said.
