The developers of Finals say they have discovered the reason for the slow movement speed, although “no change” since the beta

The Finals made a surprise appearance during Thursday night’s Game of Thrones and has grown in popularity to the point where the open beta of the months ago. There were some negative comments, however, from players who were disappointed that the player activity was now slower than during the beta.

Except, it does not slow down, say the developers – there is no change in the way of operation. But they are investigating why it seems to have slowed down, and say they have caught the culprits.

“We have studied your feedback on the feeling of the movement from the Open Beta until now. It was difficult to confirm because there was no change in the movement style or the movement speed between the two tests . But with our research, we believe we may have found the problem,” said the Embark Studios community manager on The Finals Discord server.

“We’ve identified a few things that might cause everyone to experience the game differently. Over the past month, we’ve made some small adjustments to animations, sounds, and settings that, in combination, may it gives the impression of slow motion – especially in the light and medium archetypes. The settings were also reset, so the FOV can’t use 71, which can have a big effect in the emotions of the game.

Recommended ship to check and change your FOV settings, but also working on “restoring some changes” to show the action as before.

It’s quite common for player responses to misidentify the cause of a problem, and for audio and visual elements to have a big impact on first-timers in particular.

There is a famous example of this from Enemy Territory: Wolfenstein where players reported that one team’s machine gun was more powerful than the enemy’s equivalent. Not – the stats for each weapon are the same – but Splash Damage checked the kill stats and got the players was get more kills with the weapon they thought was more powerful. The issue ended with the sound effect. One of the weapons heard more powerful than the other, causing players to use it to fight more powerfully and thus get more kills.

The Finals had other issues including server issues that prevented players from matching or disconnections during matches. games, and a persistent problem with error code TFLA0004 that leaves players “locked out of games”. The ship is “actively” investigating the cause, they said.

We will have a review of the Finals on this week, I hope. (Depends on how long I write.)
