Open your map in Starfield and it won’t be much more than a high-level map, even the cities. If you want to get around, you are limited to walking distances when on the planet and using speedboats when outside.
Both of these things may change next year, as Bethesda teased that they are working on “a lot of new features” that players have requested, including city maps and “routes new travel”.
The teaser was shared via Starfield’s Reddit community.
“We’ve been working hard on many of the issues you’ve posted, and expect an update early next year that will include several ‘progressive’ search improvements as well as FSR3 and XeSS. four As bugs do occur, we’re moving forward to fix harder-to-fix searches and we’ve built a new fix. those without returning your deposit,” the post said.
“We’re also working hard on the many new features you’ve requested, from city maps, to mod support, to all new modes of travel (permanent!). We expect to have it done in about six weeks.” .”
There isn’t much more information than that, and “all new ways of traveling” doesn’t really mean anything. Maybe they’re adding a Mako vehicle for orbiting equipment on the planet, or a new way of traveling in space that’s less of a hassle than squishing your cargo. Maybe they are adding a motorcycle for driving around town. It can be anything.
The city maps would also be a huge improvement, considering how bad they are now.
The mention of mod support is not news, as Bethesda has said that it expects official mod tools to arrive in 2024. The question remains whether mod vendors will be able to sell a their work, according to the ability that was recently added to Skyrim.
