On Wednesday, Major League Baseball announced a new Spring Training event called Spring Breakout that will take place March 14-17.
All 30 MLB clubs will put together rosters filled with 20-25 of their top Little League prospects or new talent from other organizations. Each team will play at least one seven-inning exhibition game as part of the effort. One Arizona and one Florida organization will play two to four days using the number.
Twelve games this year will be combined with Major League Spring Training games as part of an infield doubleheader, fans will see to the future and the present of their fans in one unforgettable day.
“Spring Breakout will provide a new opportunity to showcase the future stars of the game as they continue their journey to the Major Leagues,” said MLB general manager and coach Chris Marinak on Wednesday. “Fans will have special opportunities to meet our top prospects, get autographs and see the next generation of Major Leaguers up close. We are excited for Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball and our Clubs. all are working more closely than ever to expand the game and make our future All-Stars even better.
Lists will be officially announced closer to Spring Breakout. Prospects are eligible to play regardless of previous Minor League status or experience, allowing for a mix of recent MLB players- prepare with some of the young talents of the ball.
The action begins on Thursday, March 14, when the Rangers host the Reds at Surprise Stadium at 6:05 pm ET/3:05 pm local time in Arizona. An hour later in the Sunshine State, Orioles hopefuls will travel to Bradenton to face their counterparts from the Pirates system.
So, one day in the middle of the spring, it may be possible to see the 2023 first-rounder Wyatt Langford and Rhett Lowder square in the desert, but the Top 3 prospects Jackson Holliday and Paul Skenes are ready to meet each other on the Gulf Coast.
