At least three Vanu school districts were among those across the country targeted by a bomb threat.

Sebring, Newton Falls, and Champion schools have reported receiving an email purported to be from a foreign terrorist group stating that several explosive devices had been set off. in the classrooms.

Sebring officials believe this threat is part of a national hoax.

A statement posted on the Newton Falls Exempted Village Schools website said the Ohio Homeland Security/Terrorism Analysis Unit and the Statewide Terrorism Analysis & Crime Center said the emails appeared to be part of a targeted attack or lie, without a confirmed threat identified.

Kate Keller of the Trumbull County Educational Service Center, said several schools in Trumbull County have received email threats from a group claiming to be a Russian terrorist group. He added that local law enforcement officials are reporting the threats, which are considered not credible.

The Office of the Attorney General of Ohio, David Yost, has confirmed that they are aware of the bomb threat affecting many schools.

A spokesperson from the FBI office in Cleveland told 21 News that they are aware of the emails and are still evaluating their seriousness.

Newton Falls, Champion, and Sebring school districts say they have swept their buildings in accordance with local law and consider their buildings safe.

Classes will be held tomorrow and additional security checks will be conducted throughout the day.

However, some schools say they understand if parents want to pull their children out of school on Monday.

“We have a permanent officer on duty in the district and will continue to be vigilant for the safety of the students,” said Newton Falls. “However, we understand and respect the decision of parents who want to keep their students at home tomorrow because of this situation”.

The threats are not just here in the valley, similar threats have been made to schools in Parma City Schools, Akron Public Schools, North Olmsted City Schools, Twinsburg City Schools, and West Geauga Schools, according to reports from WKYC.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
