For the uninitiated, it’s not a lot of water.
Sure, the oceans of the world are full of monsters, wonders and mysteries but, otherwise, they are just big and dangerous waters. Right?
Wrong.
Unlike the uniform everywhere, the sea of the ocean is a combination of pairs and multiples that mix and divide thanks to currents, and i, and changes in temperature or salinity.
It is true, beneath the surface of our great seas, there are waterfalls, river and even large bullets, up to thousands of miles, can avoid detection.
Now, scientists have found one of these giant bubbles in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean; from the tip of Brazil to the Gulf of Guinea.
Until the discovery of this large body of water – which is named the Atlantic Equatorial Water – scientists saw the mixing of water on the equator in the Pacific and India, but not in the Atlantic.
“It seems to argue that the equatorial water is present in the Pacific and India but is missing in the Atlantic Ocean because the equatorial circulation and mixing in all three oceans have common characteristics,” Viktor Zhurbas, of a doctor and oceanographer at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology in Moscow, said Life Science.
“The newly identified water has allowed us to complete (or more accurately describe) the basic water model of the Earth’s oceans.”

As the name suggests, the Atlantic Equatorial Water is formed by the mixing of different waters by currents on the equator.
In order to distinguish between these species and the surrounding waters, oceanographers study the relationship between temperature and salinity on the surface of the ocean – to determine the size of the ocean.
Back in 1942, this temperature-salinity chart led to the discovery of equatorial waters in the Pacific and India, Life Science information.
Because it is caused by the mixing of waters in the north and the south, the seas of India and the Equatorial Pacific have the same temperature and salinities that are moving along the lines of constant pressure, which it makes it easy to distinguish it from the surrounding water.
However, for many years, no such relationship could be seen in the Atlantic.
However, thanks to the data collected by the Argo program – an international collection of spaceships that have been orbiting the Earth’s surface – the The researchers saw a temperature-salinity trend that paralleled the North Atlantic and South Atlantic Central waters.
This water cannot be detected by the Atlantic Equatorial Water.
“It was easy to confuse the Atlantic Equatorial Water with the South Atlantic Central Water, and in order to differentiate it was necessary to have a dense network of temperature and salinity information covering the entire Atlantic Ocean,” the article said Zhurbas in his email. yes Life Science.
The research is important because it gives scientists a better understanding of ocean mixing, which is important in how they transport heat, oxygen and nutrients around the world.
