Many Netflix ads still say that decisions on whether or not to renew a show are based on performance and price. Today’s release is What We’ve Been WatchingA report by Netflix on viewing hours worldwide for 18,000 titles – original and licensed – from January to June of 2023 provides information on calls made by the streamer for seasons that started in that season.
That doesn’t come as much comfort Smile and Bones fans, are still saddened by the cancellation of the epic series after two seasons, but the most watched series in English from that season gets the ax, accumulating 192.9M hours watched since the beginning of March 16 until the end of June in the situation. #26.
Smile and Bones one of the five series Netflix decided not to continue, along with Great and adult jokes Agent Elvis, Farzaand Captain Skin. The decision came in the middle of November, after the double games of Hollywood, which disrupted the communication and planning of the streamers, with the shows that are missing their shows to create long gaps in the between seasons and a pipeline for the end of 2024 and 2025.

The first new season below Smile and Bones S2, Sweet tooth (S2, #28) which aired 182.3M hours, has been renewed for a third and final season. Another written series in English, Sex/Life S2 (#31, 175.5M) has been canceled, as have other dramas whose seasons premiered in the January-June window.
Information for Great is slipping as it aired in late June, with 36.6M hours (#484) for the first nine days watched during the measurement period.
Netflix has been getting better with its comedy updates.
While The ’90s Show S1 ranked #100 with a respectable 95.1M hours watched for the half-hour show, big brother-0camera sitcom The Upshaws Part 3, which consists of 8 parts vs. 10 for the That ’70s Show series, ranked under #1000 with 21.6M hours. Both have been updated for extra cash, as well as Rob Lowe’s comedy The stabilityits first season ranked #511 with 35.3M hours in 8 episodes.
For comparison, new brother half an hour XO, Kitty (10 eps) earned 200.7M hours at #24, the highest for an ongoing comedy to drop a new season from Jan-June 2023.
But for Representing Elvisfeaturing Matthew McConaughey as the voice of Elvis Presley, the first season of the comedy, which began in March, ranks #3306 with 5.5M viewing hours.
The funny thing is, Farzarwhich was released in July 2022, received almost the same number of viewers, 5.2M hours, in the Jan-June 2023 period.
