Former Telangana chief minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao was on Saturday elected as the leader of the BRS Legislature Party.
He was unanimously chosen as the leader by the newly elected members of the party in their meeting, held before the first session of the National Assembly.
With 39 MLAs in the 119-member Assembly, the BRS is the main opposition party.
KCR, however, did not attend the BRS Legislature Party meeting as he underwent hip replacement surgery on Friday at a hospital in Hyderabad after suffering a fractured hip due to an explosion. in his house.
KCR’s son BRS working president KT Rama Rao could not attend the meeting as he and his father were in hospital. Two other MLAs were also absent due to personal reasons.
BRS Parliamentary leader Kesav Rao chaired the meeting attended by 36 MPs. The meeting passed a resolution unanimously electing KCR as the leader.
Before reaching the General Assembly, BRS members led by former minister T. Harish Rao visited Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park and held a their tribute.
Meanwhile, KTR tweeted that BRS will continue to be the voice of the people under the leadership of KCR.
“Our leader KCR garu is a fighter who fought against all odds to achieve Telangana We will continue to be the strongest voice of the people under his leadership in Telangana Legislature,” he posted on the ‘X’.
In the recently concluded Assembly elections, the Congress wrested power from the BRS by winning 64 seats.
