A senior doctor in northern Gaza said that most of the medical workers in his hospital have been taken to an undisclosed location by the Israeli military, as the public health system is being tested in the edge of skin.

Dr. Hossam Abu-Safia, the head of pediatrics at the Kamal Adwan Hospital, told CNN in a telephone interview that the area where the bomb was specifically located on Tuesday following the arrival of Israeli soldiers, describing the situation as “very dangerous. .”

The army told all men between the ages of 16 and 65 to leave their homes to search, he said.

More than 70 medical workers were “arrested and taken to an unknown location,” according to Abu-Safia, including the director of the hospital, Dr. Ahmed Al-Kahlot. His claim was echoed in a statement by the Health Ministry of Hamas in Gaza.

Al-Kahlot spoke to CNN less than 24 hours ago, saying that Israeli shells hit the maternity hospital on Monday. The attack left two women dead and two others were seriously injured in their legs which required amputation, he said at the time.

CNN was unable to reach Dr. Al-Kahlot on Tuesday.

When asked about the arrests, the Israel Defense Forces said they were continuing to “operate against Hamas strongholds in northern Gaza, including the Beit Lahia area.”

Kamal Adwan’s hospital is in Gaza City, not Beit Lahia.

The statement added that the IDF is doing “everything it can to prevent harm to non-combatants, and that it is fighting against the Hamas organization, not the people.” public in Gaza or the medical teams working there.”

Israeli activity in and around hospitals in Gaza has come down critical criticismas medical workers and NGOS have warned that the health system in the territory is ineffective and cannot tolerate any more suffering.

Last month, the Israeli army attacked Gaza’s main hospital, Al Shifain search of convincing evidence of the huge command and control center that was said to be there, while doctors rushed to remove the sick and the many newborns who needed incubators.

The IDF later brought some journalists to see the tunnels he opened in the hospital compound, which also included small underground rooms. CNN has shown the tunnel crew but they have not yet entered the tunnel.

At the Al-Rantisi children’s hospital, medical staff were also told to leave, while the IDF carried out operations inside; Israeli military officials later said that one room on the ground floor of the building was a Hamas warehouse, where there were some weapons and a chair with a rope next to it. – a claim denied by Gaza health officials.

Many hospitals serve as shelters for displaced Gazans seeking safety, in addition to caring for the sick. But those who seek refuge in hospitals find that “this is not the case,” Marie-Aure Perreaut, the emergency coordinator for Doctors Without Borders in the crisis.

Although hospitals are an area protected by international law, they can be seen as military targets. when available home to fighters and weapons. The Israeli military says it only conducts operations in and around hospitals used by Hamas and other armed groups.

Said Dr. Abu-Safia, he and five other doctors were allowed to stay at the Kamal Adwan hospital to see patients in the intensive care unit and babies.

“They said to gather in only one area or house (and) close all the doors and windows, but not close to the doors or windows,” he said.

But the care that the remaining hospital staff can offer to patients who are too weak to move is minimal, he said, “because of the scarcity of fuel, water, food, and medical supplies that even to attack.” Today, the hospital has no water or power, he added, and doctors are working with old flashlights to follow up on the remaining patients in the hospital.

On the other side of the environment, only 11 hospitals remain operational, according to Richard Peeperkorn, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Gaza, in a meeting of the team reporter on Tuesday.

“In just 66 days, health care has gone from 36 working hospitals to 11 specialized hospitals – so, one in the north and 10 in the south,” he said.

On the same day, WHO leaders Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was “deeply concerned” about “reports of an attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital i #Gas after several days of siege,” in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Many hospitals in northern Gaza have stopped working in recent weeks, saying they received orders from the Israeli military to leave. The Israeli military has disputed the issuance of such an order.

The lack of fuel has forced many hospitals in Gaza to close, while others have closed due to air pollution, according to the WHO.
