The House Republican accused special counsel David Weiss of suing Hunter Biden to protect him from the chamber’s extensive investigation into the former family.
Representative James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Oversight Committee leading the congressional investigation into Hunter Biden and President Biden, said Weiss only brought charges. the minimum that can save the father and son from revelations that are worse than his. committee.
Hunter Biden was in talks to testify before the Oversight Committee next week.
“We think this is just the tip of the iceberg. We think there are many other crimes,” Comer CNN said Friday. “And my concern is that Weiss may have sued Hunter Biden to protect him from being removed from the House Oversight Committee.”
Network anchor Jake Tapper was skeptical of the argument.
“Yeah. He sued her to protect her. Yeah. The regular letter. She sued him to protect her. I got it,” Tapper replied sarcastically. and an additional 17 years in prison.”
“Jake, this whole thing is about a cover up… You charged him with something small, a gun charge, and tax evasion.” Comer shot back. “Anyone else. in America he’s already in jail, he’s already in jail. You say he owes $2 million. He owes $7 or $8 million, if these loans are fraudulent loans. I mean, the loan means you’re going to pay it back.”
However, Team Hunter wasn’t happy with Weiss’s decision, which they noticed a few months ago was ready to let the first son off the hook with innocent charges.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, said prosecutors only brought the new charges in response to “the Republican party.”
“Now, after a five-year investigation with no new evidence — and two years after Hunter paid his taxes in full — the U.S. Attorney has filed nine new charges after he agreed several months ago to settle this case with a few misdemeanors,” Lowell said in a statement.
