BOSTON – A top member of Mayor Michelle Wu’s administration issued an apology after an email for a “color selection” holiday party was mistakenly sent to all members of the Boston City Council, 25 Investigates has learning.

Denise DosSantos, Wu’s director of City Council relations, sent an email to the council “honorable members” that read, “On behalf of Mayor Michelle Wu, I invite you and a guest at the electeds of Color Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 13. at 5:30 pm at the Parkman House, 33 Beacon Street.

About 15 minutes later, however, DosSantos sent a follow-up email to council members, apologizing for the earlier message.

Mayor Wu told Boston 25 on Wednesday afternoon that the group has been around for years and compared the event to many of Boston’s holiday celebrations.

“I wanted to apologize for my previous email about the Holiday for tomorrow. I sent that to everyone by accident, I’m sorry if my email may have been offensive,” DosSantos wrote. “Sorry for any confusion that may have caused.”

“I repeat, this group has been around for many, many years. We celebrate all the children of communication and identity with culture and heritage in the city. Yesterday we hosted our official Hannukah celebration in town, we had tree lighting,’ said Wu. “We want to be a city that embraces everyone’s identity…and there are opportunities and communities that we can help support.”

Mayor Michelle Wu said this email was an honest mistake not an attempt to divide city council, but a way to bring people together. “Choosing Colors” is a group that meets regularly, and he said that this year, he was asked to host the holiday party.

Boston 25 reached out to a few city councilors who were not invited to this holiday party. No one wanted to comment. Foreign minister Frank Baker told the Boston Herald that he was not angry.

It’s a creative story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
