A flash flood watch is in effect for much of DC Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night due to a strong area of low heavy and cold fronts produce periods of moderate to heavy rain. After a low high near 60 today, rain could change to snow and sleet late tonight as temperatures drop, a before the rain came down early Monday morning. Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 3 inches are expected, but temperatures should be warm enough for any snow or sleet to accumulate. Cold air hangs around through the middle of the week.
Sunday (Sunday): Take an umbrella and maybe wear waterproof shoes. Showers will move from west to east in the morning to afternoon. It is moderate to heavy at times in the afternoon, and the rumbling of thunder cannot be stopped. Temperatures are cool for this time of year, in the 50s in the morning and reaching the upper 50s to low 60s this afternoon despite mostly cloudy skies. Winds will be light, with gusts from the south and west around 20 mph. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: Moderate to heavy rain will continue at times during the evening and overnight, with a rumble of thunder possible. There may be minor flooding near rivers, streams and areas prone to flooding in the city. Winds have picked up from the northwest behind the front, gusting to 25-35 miles per hour. Rain may change to wet snow and sleet as overnight temperatures drop into the mid 30s to near 40. Areas west of Interstate 95 and DC, especially west of on Route 15, a dusting may be seen on the grass, but snow accumulation should be limited to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Faith: Medium

Morning (Monday): Showers or cold mixes should move from west to east around 8-9 a.m. Mostly clear in the late morning and afternoon with highs in the middle the 40s.
