Darius Slay returned to practice on Friday after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday with the dual label of “knee” and “resting man.”
Slay’s numbers have been high lately – he has 375 tackles in the Eagles’ last five games, the highest 5-game total of his 11-year career. He will turn 33 in three weeks, and is the first cornerback 32 or older to play 375 snaps in five games since Pacman Jones of the Bengals played 377 in 2016 at 33.
Slay, a five-time Pro Bowler, is the type of senior who can play with some practice time. He hasn’t missed a game in three years with the Eagles and has missed just seven games in the last 10 years.
Whether or not Slay is named a full member or limited will be part of the Eagles’ roster, which will be released Friday afternoon. Either way, Slay will almost certainly be available for the Eagles’ game Sunday night against the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Overall, the Eagles are in the best injury situation they’ve been in for a while, and it looks like every player — aside from Nakobe Dean, who is out for an extended period of time due to a leg injury – will be available on Sunday.
Also on the practice field Friday was tight end Dallas Goedert and linebacker Zach Cunningham. Goedert has missed the last three games with a broken arm. Cunningham missed the 49ers game with an injury. They said they hope to play on Sunday.
Julio Jones (groin), who missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, was also in practice on Friday evening. Since catching a touchdown in Washington’s second game, he has three catches for five yards in the Eagles’ last five games.
Fletcher Cox (groin) and Jack Stoll (knee) practiced Wednesday and Thursday. Grant Calcaterra (ankle), who sat out Wednesday and Thursday, was the same.
Newly signed Shaq Leonard was in training but has a new number. After practicing No. 50 during the walk-through on Wednesday and Thursday, he wore his old No. 53, which he wore during his five years with the Colts. Picked number 53 when the Eagles released Christian Ellis.
