Court Watch
(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced the day it was found There are 31 pages of documents in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from the Department of Homeland Security that reveal the name of the companion of Obama’s chef Tafari Campbell as a woman named to “Ms. Taylor,” who reported that “(Campbell) fell into the water and struggled for a few seconds before giving up and sinking under the water.”
The records also show that the Secret Service was unable to find the first two boats they tried to use to find Campbell operating with four using the ranger’s boat. Additionally, at least one, and possibly more, agents from the Secret Service’s Little Rock, Ark., office were involved in the search for Campbell’s body.
Data received in response to October 25, 2023, FOIA judgment against the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after it failed to respond to an August request for Secret Service video recordings and other records related to the death of the personal chef of Obamas, Tafari Campbell, in July 2023 at the Edgartown Great Pond behind the Obamas’ estate on Martha’s Vineyard (Judicial Watch Inc. v. US Department of Homeland Security (No. 1:23-cv-03194)).
The documents include a July 24 report from an anonymous Secret Service agent that reveals interview details — including the name — of Campbell’s companion at the helm: “Ms. Taylor said that Mr. Campbell was wearing a life jacket and had no inflatable devices on the helm at the time of the accident.”
Another report states how Campbell’s companion fell to the ground and said Tafari drowned. He said he fell into the water and struggled for a few seconds before giving up and sinking under the water. The agent continued, explaining how a supervisor and another agent tried to start one of the boats but it was difficult to get the engine down. I went down with (redacted) and told him to continue down and yelled at SA (redacted) and SSA (redacted) to run to get the keys to our USSS boat. I rushed to the CP (Command Post), grabbed the keys and ran back to the ships. A similar issue occurred with the fire on the second ship. We jumped into the third janitor’s boat and it worked without a hitch.”
The same report states that President Obama was the first to arrive at the scene and that the search was halted so that President Obama could speak to the witness:
We continued our search with flashlights. We were soon called to Wilson’s Landing because FPOTUS Obama was there and the local Fire Department along with the Massachusetts Police Department and other local agencies set up an Emergency Post Office. He wanted to talk about it (stop). The first EMS/Police response we saw probably happened within an hour. I remember seeing a small PD or Fire boat patrolling the beach after dark.
“It’s a tragedy that the Secret Service boats were not ready for this emergency,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “This new information may explain why the Secret Service is hiding the video related to the fatal drowning.”
In October, Judicial Watch obtained 40 pages of documents from the Massachusetts State Police showing Barack Obama’s participation in a witness interview in the death investigation. The documents, which are highly classified, show that Barack Obama arrived at the emergency site by car. A short time later, a cold and wet woman arrived, who was a witness. The next morning, the eyewitness was interviewed at Obama’s house, it seems that Barack Obama is there again. The documents also describe the presence of a Secret Service photo of Campbell and his co-pilot in the water, and the Secret Service emergency response immediately after he drowned. State Police records show they concluded “no foul play” in Campbell’s “accidental” death.
In August 2023, Judicial Watch was released record received from the Edgarton, Mass., Police Department revealed that the Secret Service reported Campbell missing and found the body using sonar. The records also indicate that the clothes found were left off the body and no life jacket was made.
