Representative Joe Neguse (D-CO) took his Republican colleagues to task for failing in key areas of governance in a floor speech on Wednesday.
“It’s been 11 months that the Republicans have been in the majority in this House, but what do they have to show for it?” Nothing,” Neguse said.
“There are no efforts to increase the middle class, no efforts to reduce costs, no efforts to build safe communities, but an effort to reduce the debt of our country” e, there are two attempts to shut down the government. Neguse’s comments came a day after a contentious hearing about the Biden impeachment inquiry in the House Rules Committee on Tuesday. Republicans say Biden should be impeached in connection with his son Hunter’s business dealings. However, the House GOP did not provide evidence that would directly tie President Biden to Hunter’s foreign operations.
Meanwhile, the GOP’s impeachment inquiry has become widely publicized even in conservative circles. In a recent segment on the right-wing Newsmax, host Rob Finnerty openly expressed skepticism about the GOP’s goals, calling it an “exercise in futility.”
Finnerty said that even if the House of Biden were successful, it would “dead on arrival” in the US Senate, where the Democrats have a majority. He added that Biden could also be a general election candidate in 2024.
Neguse’s speech shows Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), is not only a member of the House Republican Conference, but a member of the House Freedom Caucus. In November, Roy open to his partyand asked his friends to “tell me one, meaningful, important thing that the Republican majority did.”
“For the life of me, I don’t understand how you can go to the trouble of campaigning, raising money, going to events, talking to people, coming to this town as a member of a party that is accused of a thing … nothing to do with it,” Roy said.
“One thing: I want my Republican colleagues to give me one thing—one—that I can go to the campaign and say we did it. One!”
